beauty in the cast-offs

Two old friends escape to the big city today
to spend time exploring the cast-off
parts of town.

Leaded glass windows for sale
in a reclamation store.
Weeds growing out of rubble.
 Abandoned waterfront industrial buildings.

Open eyes find beauty where least expected.

  3. What a feast for the senses! I'm so glad you posted these. The vines and graffiti and letting sleeping dogs lie, The windows that do, indeed, look like quilts, and I love how you captured the weed, clinging, literally between a rock and a hard place.

I love it all, Mike. Thank you.

  6. Mike, great shots. I love them all. I read somewhere that there are ten good shots from wherever you stand! I always try and pick them out in my mind. You did a good job!

  7. Hi Mike,

I enjoyed this, but wish I had been there too. Ohh, those architectural salvage places are the best. I am a sucker for them.

The photos are done with the true eye of an artist.

I do know John's Bay Boatworks etc., but I don't know THEM. Although we've had our cottage in South Bristol for 17 years, we're not the typical summer people. We both work. I continue illustrating and writing my books, my husband edits, works on old fix-ups of buildings, and we love every minute of every day. John's Bay is solace for me. The sky, the sounds and scents, the life everywhere.

Maybe we will meet this summer.

    All best,

  8. Oh these captures are simply lovely Mike. With the cast-off theme in my mind, when I got to the one with the kitty it just broke my heart. (I've got to quit thinking so literally!) ~Lili

  9. Not to worry about Kitty, Lili! She was a very well looked after cat, very affectionate and obviously very loved. I think she belongs to the woman whose studio is down that lane. She was at that moment in hot pursuit of something under that building-- She just likes to walk on the wild side ;o)
