(The stars) then, though unbeheld in deep of night,
Shine not in vain; nor think, though men were none,
That Heaven would want spectators, God want praise;
Millions of spiritual Creatures walk the Earth
Unseen, both when we wake, and when we sleep;
All these with ceaseless praise his works behold
Both day and night: how often from the steep
Of echoing Hill or Thicket have we heard
Celestial voices to the midnight air,
Sole, or responsive each to other's note,
Singing their great Creator ?....

Lovely. Just lovely.

DeleteOh, how beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've had you on my mind lately ~ wondering how you are doing.
This is so beautiful...it is truly a work of art! ~Lili
ReplyDeleteDear Mike,
ReplyDeleteFifty-four years ago I read Paradise Lost. I wonder if the words you've quoted today touch me as deeply then as now. They remind me of coming upon angels unawares and of the sure truth that we never know who walks in beauty before us and so we must keep our hearts open for possibility. Thank you.
Peace.
